Soo once again I find it hard to find time for blogging :O I mean I have enough to blog about, but I guess I still need to find the discipline to do it weekly.
Happy Easter everyone!
Remember I said I like to work with themes? Welll…here is another themed picture.
For this blogpost I am going to feature a wip art piece I made for a friend, that happens to be a super cute bunny! This is a new character designed by herself and after she showed it me I felt in love with it. Of course now that it’s Easter I had to draw her and here we are with the result! Well it’s not finished yet, but it will be soon ♥
I had a blast sketching her and it’s good to spend time arting ♥ I hope you like it and I wish you all an awesome extra-long weekend!
Just a quick blog for this one!
A month has passed since I started my new job as a designer in marketing/merchandising! I am really enjoying it there and the things I make there. I’ve already done so many projects and some designs/ideas are already in production. What I enjoy the most is the variety the job is giving me, all tough sometimes it can be hard to switch between projects. Of course it also gives me a proper stability in my life both mentally as financially 😛 That sounds boring, but yeah like I said before I really need this now! I am happy with where I am now and that I can do my job and feel good about it.
I’ve been making Splatoon Hats for the past 1,5 years.
Something that started out as my very first fleece hat turned out to be a huge success. I Just started to make these after playing the game Splatoon on the Wii U and I immediately became a fan of the game! 😀 Till this day I still love to play the game and will be looking forward to the sequel Splatoon 2 on the Nintendo Switch!
In able to sell these hats which where custom/handmade by myself I had to open a shop. I started with a google form and advertised on Facebook and other sites. I didn’t expected to sell allot after my first prototype and was hoping for maybe a handful of orders. This quickly turned into 20 orders for my first batch. My mind was blown that so many people where interested in these and yes 20 was allot for me :P. Everything made me really excited to start sewing more of these hats.
I made a deal with myself, that I want to blog every week. I want to keep that promise, but it’s been really hard to make time for these. Especially with my new job, it’s becoming harder and harder to make time for other things. Nevertheless I am really happy with my job, but just a little bit sad that I have to schedule things differently and probably need to lower my goals for a bit.
One thing is for sure, I don’t easily give up on things!
For that reason I am going to cheat a little bit and make a few blog posts and catch up! Hopefully I will get used to my job soon and find a proper balance between my work, commissions and personally life/ goals.
Remember that poll I did a few weeks ago!?
Well here are the results :3 This is going to be a quick post, because with the new job it’s become harder for me to make time for these :O (wasn’t quick at all :P)
So in my Poll I asked what do you like to see next time I open commissions? For example this could be art or custom hoodies! I’ve also added new things ♥ In the end I’ve gotten quite some feedback and I was very surprised by the result.
No update of the month in projects this time!
My adventure continues, where I found this pretty cool job (started March 7) where I can explore new things and gain more security. It is a part time time job, which means I can still continue my own work as a freelance illustrator and seamstress + have a breather. I will have more financial stability, hopefully less stress and will be out of the house more :O.
Of course this will turn my life upside down (but in a good way) and it will also limit my time I can spend on freelance projects, but at this moment this is what I need to take good care for myself, to be happy and to move forward in my life.
The event for Comic Fans! Right!?
Okay to be honest this was my first time attending this event, but this was my impression about it. First of all, Harley Quinn’s everywhere! EVERYWHERE…I like cosplayers and all, heck I even cosplayed myself when I was younger. But really, when I start to see the same cosplay all over the place, it really disappoints me. I guess that’s just me, but hey I am not here to talk about them so lets continue :3
I really enjoyed the con itself, but purely just to lurk around and check some good oll loot! Also it’s just fun to spend this kind of time with my mate (& friends). We are real hoarders when it comes to this. I love to collect all kind of things like figurines, prints, art, games & comic books etc. So this was really a fun place to be if you are looking for those kind of things. But was it worth it?
Another art blog huh!? Yup, I’ve finished another art piece for one of my clients and here I am blogging about it ^_^
This time it’s in the theme of a game and like I said in my last blog, I love working with themes ♥ To be specific it’s featuring one of the characters from Overwatch, well at least her outfit is. She is quite the popular character in Overwatch (alltough I prefer playing with D.Va myself ♥) and as a fan of Overwatch myself I was more then happy to draw this for the client!
Even tough we (me and my partner) don’t really celebrate this day (we are happily together for almost 9 years now!), I do like to make themed art when I can. I love to draw in themes like Valentine, Seasonal (spring, summer, fall, winter) & Halloween ♥ that last one is my favorite! But now it’s time for Valentine!
Time sure flies fast!
In the past month I have been pretty occupied with all kind of appointments and mostly sewing fleece hats and one hoodie. I was hoping to finish all my hoodie projects, but nope :O
I was also pretty distracted by a new (well upgraded) budget program, I like to tell more about later maybe. I’ve also updated my portfolio (still not done yet) and had another job opportunity (no news yet tough).
So for this week blog, I’ve decided to do a meet the artist thing. I made this drawing very recently featuring me and the things I (dis)like. It’s just something simple to show my followers who I am :3 Of course not everything is on here so I will tell a little bit more about myself here!
A little (back) story
I am currently debating with myself what I want to do next time I open commissions.
I have been getting tons of requests for onesies and opening dates for these, but I like to know what more can I offer? Since not everyone can afford an onesie or want one in the first place and I don’t want to disappoint the ones that want other stuff from me (e.g. art or smaller sewing projects).
Looking back I’ve done allot of different type of commissions, from art to sewing projects! Now I’ve been closed for new commissions for quite some time and I am not planning to open anytime soon until most of my queue is done. But at the moment I am not sure yet what I want to do next (just want to prepare mentally & creatively), since there are so many things I have done I can do again or just start up new things!
It’s time for a recap!
Every year I make a summary of my work I’ve done during that year. And every time I am so stressed and thought I barely made any progress. But then every time when I do make the summary of that year I am surprised about the amount of work I still did.
I love to do these recaps, I think it’s good for every person, artist or not to evaluate yourself every time. Sometimes you can be blinded by stress or different reasons and you feel you have wasted a complete year. Sure sometime (most of the times) I wished I had done more and feel I kept pushing projects forward. But it also makes me wonder if I don’t ask too much of myself?
Happy New Year!
A new year, a fresh start…kinda. I still have lots to do, projects to be finished and a portfolio to be filled! 2016 been a rough ride, I am always so super busy and distracted that time flies too fast. However I also feel truly blessed that I can make a living of my freelance work. I really appreciate all the support I am getting and that people are interested in buying my work ^_^
I have to keep remind and push myself to blog (yay for weekly banner). If not for sharing with other people, then for myself. It’s good to express myself and make a bit of breathing room in my mind (and to get better in writing)!
Just my thoughts about social media! And keep in mind, this is my opinion and it is how I experience it!
With websites like Instagram, facebook, twitter and/or tumblr etc it is allot about the popularity and attention (+follow, thumbs up, share, retweet, double tap etc) you get rather then expressing yourself the way you want! I mean I get it, because without the proper followers you won’t receive any feedback + everyone likes to get positive attention! And as an artist you need this base in able to make a living of your work. But it becomes a competition and this can either boost yourself up or put too much pressure on you.
Why not blogging on other websites like, blogger, weebly or tumblr? Simple, I want to keep it personal (and looong) and I don’t do that on social media which I mostly use for sharing my work and fun memes (it’s more visual)!
I want to blog on my own website where I can share my thoughts in a simple way, without frills. Beside it’s useless to make a personal website if you make it a static one. It’s also nice to have everything in one place, for example don’t you just hate to say “Hey here is my website, but you need to go to this other place for my portfolio and my blog is somewhere else too” it just doesn’t stick. And that’s why I think WordPress is a perfect way to create a personal website with a portfolio and a blog! And that’s coming from a person that started to get really annoyed by wordpress, but I have to admit in the end it offers exactly what I want for a personal website.
While writing my blog last Tuesday I’ve realized I should make more time blogging! Originally I wrote this and upcoming blogs last Tuesday, a month after the announcement of my new website. I know I can easily get distracted and talk too much about something (that’s why I also think a blog is perfect!), so I’ve decided to split that blog into 4 parts and schedule 1 every Tuesday.
Meanwhile I am very busy working on my commission work. I have lots of projects waiting to be finished and that’s why I wasn’t able to focus completely on uploading my work either.
Time sure flies fast! Just a month ago I was busy working non stop on this new website and soon after I gradually filled my page with portfolio items! I mean that’s what this is all about, to create a website where I am able to share my work…right!? ♥
Half true! I also just really want to blog, but because it’s been so busy I barely had the chance to make time for it. I have tons to tell and I have a million thoughts to share. The hard part is to take the steps to actually do it! Procrastinating is really a bad habit of mine and not just with blogging, but with projects, daily tasks and even in hobbies too. It is a huge challenge for me to stay focused and it can be pretty stressful, working on it tough!
